These Portuguese Laurel (Prunus lusitanica) standard trees are all 3m (10ft) tall with clear stems. They are designed for feature planting or for those who wish to plant an evergreen tree that will provide coverage above garden fence panels.

Portugal Laurel is relatively slow growing and one can expect up to a foot (30cm) of growth a year if left untrimmed. It forms a dense evergreen hedge with dark green leaves and produces a proliferation of small white flowers in late spring and looks good in formal situations.

Careful preparation of your planting site is important and we recommend mixing you soil with compost and/or farmyard manure to give your trees the best start. It is also extremely important to plant using a tree stake and tie to support your tree in its first few years to avoid it blowing over until its roots have properly established as anchors in the ground.

We recommend trimming these standard Portuguese Laurel trees annually in the spring or autumn to keep their shape and bushiness or they can be left to fill out a gap. We recommend trimming in the spring before a new flush of growth.

Portuguese Laurel is tolerant of most soil types although it does not like waterlogged soil. It also grows quite happily in full sunshine or in partial shade making it versatile for a number of different situations.
